Update to Unaccompanied Minors Agency Statement

Redwood Community Services has been exploring ways in which to support the large number of undocumented minors currently being held in detention centers throughout the United States. Our recruitment team has been inquiring with local families to assess the interest in placing those children with identified family connections to Northern California and are overwhelmed with gratitude at our community’s response.

While we had anticipated this project to move forward swiftly, at this time the community partners, State and Federal agencies we have been collaborating with have been unable to approve a process to move forward. We continue to engage in conversations and are in support of reuniting these children with family in whatever way is determined to minimize additional trauma. As more information becomes available, we will update those families who have expressed interest and our local community members.

In the meantime, we often have placement needs for children who would be best suited in a Spanish speaking home or family setting that is most closely aligned with the Hispanic culture.
