Sexual and Reproductive Wellness for Youth in Foster Care

In July 2017, California adopted a new law requiring comprehensive sexual health education for youth in foster care and new training requirements for foster caregivers, social workers and judges with Senate Bill 89.


This training ensures young people in foster care age 10 and older, including non-minor dependents, have access to education, information, and services about their sexual and reproductive health. The sexual and reproductive health rights of youth in foster care and the duties and responsibilities as a caregiver as well as those of the case worker, how to engage with youth about sexual and reproductive wellness.

This training is required as the RCS resource parent approval process and counts towards initial training hours.

This training is intended for those that work with children and youth within the child welfare system or are at-risk of entering. This includes child welfare workers, resource parents, youth sports coaches, youth mentors, teachers, law enforcement and volunteers/staff working with this population.
