This book The Risk of Us is fiction but tells the story of a couple wanting to build a family by adopting through foster care, the process and challenges;  and the realities of the traumatized child they bring into their home  How they are learning and practicing trauma informed care; the importance and struggles of attachment and what  really is  unconditional love. 

Training will include selected readings from the book titled The Risk of Us by Rachel Howard. Facilitated by Carole Loudd, MA you will be led in a group discussion at each session relating the reading to your experience fostering.

Objectives

  • Explore your own experiences with the process of becoming and continuing to be RFA parents

  • Use this format to interact with other caregivers to highlight and share your skills and share resources.

  • How to question “authority” without feeling fearful and frustrated.

  • What does unconditional love mean to you? Is it possible?
