Gibson House Set To Reopen, Looks For Donations

Redwood Community Services is pleased to announce that Gibson House, a mental health supportive housing program, will reopen on Tuesday, July 5. The program was paused in December of last year after a fire damaged the building.

While the construction is being finished, work remains. The building needs to be furnished and RCS is asking for the community’s help to accomplish this undertaking. Gibson House needs mattresses and box frames, as well as towels, sheets and shower curtains. The house also needs several kitchen items, including utensils, pots, pans and other cooking materials.

We would like to take this opportunity to also thank those who have already donated items to the house.

“Independent housing in the community is one of the key goals of clients residing at Gibson House. Staff assist clients in applying for independent housing, helping clients obtain driver’s licenses, navigating transportation, and finding work,” said Samantha Stafford, clinical program manager. “At the same time, Gibson residents continue to receive help on social skills, activities of daily living, and any other needs that could jeopardize their ability to live independently.”

Gibson House is an 8-bed supportive housing program for adults who require around-the-clock care. Stepping Stones, which provides specialty mental health services to young adults in Mendocino County, provides 24/7 staffing for the house. Gibson House combines supervision and a therapeutic environment with independent living and life skills training.
